Donating at funeral services
One way to celebrate the life of a loved one is to ask family and friends to make a donation at their funeral service. Often people choose to make a donation in lieu of flowers. If you would like to ask for donations for Brake at a funeral you are arranging, we can make the process as simple as possible for you.
You can request resources by telephoning 01484 683294 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We can provide you with:
Donation envelopes – You could choose to place envelopes on seats before the service starts or make them available for people to collect as they leave the venue.
Collection boxes – These could be placed at the funeral venue, to collect donations for Brake.
Charity information leaflets – We can send these to you to enable you to explain to guests where their donations are being sent and how they will be spent.
Pin badges or wrist bands – Perhaps you might like to buy some of our pin badges or wrist bands for members of the congregation to wear as a symbol to commemorate their loved one. They retail at £1.00 per item and can be purchased by emailing email@example.com.
Bereavement guide – At the time of the death, the police should have provided you with a copy of Brake’s bereavement guide, Information and advice for bereaved families and friends flowing death on the road, offering information, advice and support. If you have not received a copy of this free guide, do get in touch and we will happily post one out to you. We can also provide free copies of our Coping with Grief booklet for anyone affected by the bereavement; this provides reassurance about common reactions to a sudden bereavement as well as hints and tips for getting through each day and information about seeking help. All of Brake’s support literature is available online by clicking here.
To obtain any of the above resources, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01484 683294.
If you feel you would like emotional support or practical help as a result of your bereavement, please contact our friendly and professional helpline team on freephone 0808 8000 401 (Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm) or email email@example.com. You can read more about our helpline service by clicking here.
Please send your donations, and the collection envelopes so we can collect the gift aid, to us (with cheques made payable to Brake) at:
Brake the road safety charity
PO Box 548
We would be grateful if you could include a covering letter with your contact details so we know how the donation has been raised and so that we can confirm that we have received it.
Online Tribute Page - You may like to consider setting up an online Tribute Page in memory of your loved one. Tribute Pages are a unique online space which you, friends and family can fill with pictures and memories of your loved one and also make donations. Creating a page in memory of your loved one will enable people who cannot attend the funeral service to leave thoughts and memories and also choose to donate to Brake in their memory.

For Funeral Directors: Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01484 683294 and request envelopes or leaflets. We will ensure that these are sent out promptly. Once donations are collected, please send a cheque, made payable to Brake, to the above address, enclosing a covering letter. When contact details are provided we will always write to the next of kin to thank them for their support and to confirm the total amount received.
