Schools, nurseries, colleges and community groups can make a huge difference to road safety - and Brake is here to help you take action. By speaking out together about the need for safer streets and safer road use, we can make our communities safer, nicer and greener, help people to live active lifestyles, and stop needless tragedies before they happen.
Brake is a charity that provides advice and resources, and runs national events and publicity, to help communities achieve safer roads. We also campaign nationally to raise awareness and call for government action, and we support families devastated by road death and injury.
There are lots of ways schools and communities can work with us, so we can help you make a difference, and so you can support our important work. Here are some of the main ways:
Get involved in Road Safety Week: coordinated by Brake each November, it's the perfect time to promote, teach or campaign on road safety in your area. Find out how and register for a free action pack at www.roadsafetyweek.org.uk.
Campaign for safer streets: are you worried about road danger in your area? Are local people crying out for lower speed limits or better pavements, paths and crossings? Get campaigning, with our advice, and you can make it happen.
Use our guide to teach road safety: use our guide to teaching road safety and lesson ideas to help you promote life-saving awareness among pupils.
Take part in Brake's Giant Walk for primary schools: every June tens of thousands of primary school children take part in Brake's Giant Walk, saying yes to healthy walking and no to fast driving in their community. Schools get a resource pack and help organising a great awareness-raising walk.
Run a Beep Beep! Day for 2-7 year-olds: hundreds of nurseries, pre-schools and children's centres run Beep Beep! Days each year using resources from Brake. These fun days teach tots and infants road safety basics while raising awareness among parents.
Fundraise for Brake: help us continue our vital work by running a local fundraiser, which can help raise awareness about road safety too. See our fundraising ideas.
Keep in touch: Educators can keep up-to-date with Brake's initiatives for schools by signing up to our termly educator bulletin. Anyone can sign up for our monthly e-bulletin with all the Brake news and views. You can also follow us on Facebook or Twitter.
