Educating local people

There are many ways you can help educate local people about the importance of taking more care on roads. At the top of this page you will find a couple of useful downloadable resources, followed by some general advice about how to get started!

Downloadable Pledge to Drive Safely form that drivers can sign

Download photocopiable letters from bereaved parents asking drivers to slow down

Download our photocopiable ‘Stay Safe Family Promise’

  1. Get trained to give road safety presentations to schools, colleges, parents or companies in your community Click here for more information about joining our Road Safety Academy.

  2. Run a ‘Pledge to Drive Safely’ exhibition stand at a local fete or in your town centre, or make a safe driving display for your doctor’s surgery or library. Call Lisa Kendall on 01484 683294 for fundraising buckets to raise money for Brake from your stand, and brand your stand with free and low cost cost road safety posters and leaflets by Brake and other agencies accesible here through our online catalogue

  3. Run a family safety ‘fun day’. We can provide you with ‘Stay Safe Family Promise’ stickers and balloons for your event as well as the above download at the top of this page. Set up fun activities for families, such as the opportunity to have a look at a speed gun (ask your local police to get involved), a tombola in aid of Brake, and a road safety puppet show by your local puppeteer! For more ideas, call Lisa Kendall on *01484 683294. *

  4. Leaflet drop!Hand out leaflets to parents leaving school, employees leaving work, or at church or other community occasions. You can also drop leaflets through local letterboxes. Use the links above for resources.

  5. Run a road safety pub quiz in aid of Brake!Test how much local people know about the rules of the road. Set questions from the Highway Code which you can buy online or from bookshops. Charge an entry fee and provide a small prize; and give the profits to Brake for our support services for bereaved families. Call Lisa our community fundraiser for more great fundraising ideas for evening events on 01484 683294 or…go to our fundraising pages.
