Helping local schools and other child care providers to keep kids safe
If you are concerned about the safety of children in your community and want to work with schools and other child care providers to improve their safety, use the cross-links below to other sections of our website to help you get started!
-
Get schools, nurseries, play groups and child minders to take part in Brake’s fun road safety events for schools and other child care providers. Go to information on Beep Beep! Day and our Record-Breaking Walking Bus
-
If there are roads in your area that are dangerous for children, you can call our mascot’s ‘Zak the Zebra Hotline’ and receive an e-campaign pack to help you improve road safety. Visit Zak’s page for more information on the campaign and his Zebra Hotline
*3. Work with your local school/nursery/child care provider to develop their Road Safety Policy and, if they are a school, their School Travel Plan. *Go to our template road safety policy for schools on our Road Safety Week website, with links to information about School Travel Plans
- Work with educators to educate parents, teachers, child carers and governors about safe driving around children. Go to our page on running a local education campaign for adults, including downloadable and photocopiable flyers.
5. Get competitive - For infant and primary age children, organise a road safety poster competition, displaying the winning entry in local shops. Talk to your council’s road safety officer or a local company about providing a prize. Your lnewspaper may be interested in sponsoring the competition and printing a copy of the winning poster alongside information about ‘slowing down’. You can also run our ‘hazard spot competition’ for primary age children (see below download). For secondary age children, use this link to go to an exciting competition called 30 seconds to change your mind that requires pupils to ‘get creative’.
