Short-term graduate and under-graduate roles

Recently graduated or still at Uni and looking to improve your CV by getting work experience for a great national charity in our national office in Huddersfield? Brake has roles available for bright and enthusiastic graduates and undergraduates (or equivalent), some voluntary, some paid.

Graduate volunteer internship programme (3-6 months, voluntary): This is a highly competitive programme open to ambitious graduates who are wanting a charity career in one of these three areas: campaigns (policy and pr), events or fundraising. Working under our experienced officers in one of these three divisions, successful candidates will work for the charity for 3-6 months, doing a range of exciting experience-building tasks in those divisions, such as writing press releases and campaign briefings, talking to journalists, organising launches, and talking to potential funders. (For more information about the breadth of our work and the sort of projects you might get to work on, read this website.) Expect to be immersed in a highly charged environment where everything you do counts, and be given challenging responsibilities and the opportunity to shape your experience with us by proactively developing your own ideas.

Interns often go on to successful careers in permanent positions in similar roles elsewhere or have the opportunity to apply for one of our paid year-long internship programmes that are annually  available.

You must have a degree of 2:1 honours or above, with A and B grades at A level, a deadline-driven high energy approach to your work, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a commitment to the cause, and relevant experience (for example, you organised a university charity event, worked in an MP's office, or edited a student magazine).  To apply, send a 500 word letter explaining your interest in the role and your CV to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with these words in the subject box:  'internship', the word 'fundraise' 'events' or 'campaigns' (depending which one you want to apply for) and your full name. In your covering letter you must state the dates you would be available to work for the charity (minimum duration 3 months) and the hours you would be able to give weekly (minimum hours 14 per week).

Please note: You must meet all the above criteria; please do not apply if you do not as you will not be considered under any circumstances. Deadline for applications: rolling - applications considered at any time.

Under-graduate volunteer work experience placements: If you are a student looking for charity experience as part of your degree or in your holidays, or a tutor wanting block or day release opportunities for your students, then unpaid placement opportunities may be available at Brake in our campaigns, events and fundraising divisions.

Send your CV and a 500 word letter explaining your interest in getting experience with us to Sarah Fatica at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Deadline for applications: rolling - applications considered at any time.

If you are a University Tutor wishing to discuss opportunities for your students at Brake, you can call Sarah Fatica on 01484 559909 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Paid tele-fundraising and project workers (temporary posts): This isn't just any old job to help fund your time at uni. You are excellent on the phone, committed to the cause, hard working and get results. You might be selling advertising space on our websites to corporates or talking to schools about getting involved in our Giant Walking Bus or contacting volunteers to ask them to participate in our national surveys. Great experience to help you break into the voluntary sector while getting paid too! Please contact us at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
