To Lauren Christina Finlay - My daughter, killed in a road crash, 21 June 2005
Wish Upon a Cloud
I never thought I’d have to live without your perfect grace,
I didn’t tell you oft enough how much I loved your face;
I thought we’d always have the choice of sitting side by side,
My world ended abruptly when I was told that you had died.
Not a day goes by without thinking of your love,
But memories on their own are proving not enough,
I took your love for granted until it was too late,
It’s only now I know that sharing time with you was great.
And when the sun is shinin’,
I know that you are smilin’,
And when the rain falls,
I think that you are cryin’,
You cry along with me,
And still you make me proud,
So when I’m thinking of you,
I wish upon a cloud.
Sometimes it’s like you’re telling me that things will be okay,
And when I want you near me all I gotta do is pray;
It’s like you’re reaching out to me and still here in a way,
And goodbye is something that I still don’t have to say.
Slowly I am learning that living must go on,
And though it seems at times that I’m standing on my own,
I feel your spirit all around, despite the body gone,
So in my heart I feel that I’m not totally alone.
And when the sun is shinin’,
I know that you are smilin’,
And when the rain falls,
I think that you are cryin’,
You cry along with me,
And still you make me proud,
So when I’m thinking of you,
I wish upon a cloud.
