Local caseworker – National Road Victim Service

Location: We have roles available in 9 regions across the UK (see below). Roles will be home-based with some travel required within each region.

Hours: 21.75 – 36.25 hours per week depending on location (see below)

Contract length: 24 months, with likely extension for a further 12 months.

Salary: £24,000 FTE

We’re recruiting for a number of Local Caseworker roles to sit within our growing National Road Victim Service team. We are looking for experienced support professionals to establish local face-to-face delivery in locations across the UK. Local Caseworkers will provide case manage provision of immediate and early intervention care to victims of road death and serious and life changing injury.

The role will be subject to the latest covid-19 guidance. You will provide support to service users over the phone, through virtual meetings and written communications and face-to-face as required. The successful candidate will be required to go through an enhanced DBS vetting process due to the sensitive nature of the service delivered.

Brake's National Road Victim Service is the specialist, accredited, UK-wide national service for road victims, delivering day-one onwards case-managed care for anybody who has been bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash or supporting a road crash victim.

Who you are

You will have a background in providing support to a vulnerable client group through both face to face and virtual settings. You will have knowledge, experience and understanding of working with people who have experienced sudden loss and traumatic bereavement and experience of using a case management approach to supporting people in traumatic situations. You understand the importance and application of risk management and safeguarding procedures and are familiar with the Criminal Justice system and Coroners Court. You will live within one of the regions listed above and will have access to your own transport to travel across the region as required.

Key tasks

Reporting into a regional manager, you will be supporting service users who have suffered traumatic bereavement or serious and life changing injury by a road crash. You will be required to do so in a highly sensitive and empathetic manner, providing emotional support alongside complex practical information and advocacy requiring high level diplomacy skills. You will use a clinically and trauma informed casework methodology approach to support provision, using risk and needs assessments, with support plans working in partnership with both statutory and non-statutory support services.
