West Mercia Police

In Road Safety Week 2022, West Mercia Police shared useful resources on their social media pages to let local residents know how they can keep themselves and other road users safe. The theme of the week was 'Safe Roads for All', and West Mercia Police used this to raise awareness of how drivers can share the road responsibly.

Road Chef

Brake volunteers visited Road Chef service stations during Road Safety Week 2022. Our volunteers ran road safety awareness stands, speaking to drivers about important changes to the Highway Code and sharing information about Brake’s National Road Victim Service, and the vital support it provides to victims of road collisions across the UK.

RSW19 West Yorks Fire Kirklees College

West Yorkshire Fire Service

Crews from Huddersfield Fire Station in West Yorkshire raised awareness about road safety with a demonstration at Kirklees College. They showed the process of cutting someone free from a car and talked about how crashes impact the emergency services.

They also talked about the causes of crashes and how they affect people – from bereaved families and seriously injured casualties to the wider community.

RSW19 Road Safety Profs Gateshead Council 1

Gateshead Council

Members of Gateshead Council's Fleet Management and Road Safety teams worked together on an exchanging places event to raise awareness about blind spots around trucks.

The public event was held in a nearby supermarket carpark and allowed cyclists to sit in the cab of a truck, while also giving truck drivers the chance to see the viewpoint from a cyclist.

Horsham District Council

Horsham District Council’s team of Neighbourhood Wardens got involved in Road Safety Week 2019. Teams in Storrington provided activity packs for Little Bears Pre-school in Sullington. Wardens in Ashington visited the local toddler group Shining Stars and ran road safety activities and gave out stickers and postcards for the children to take home. Pulborough engaged with children and grown-ups on their morning school drop-off and gave out hi-vis bands and stickers.

Communities in Billingshurst, Horsham, Steyning and Southwater also shared road safety advice and information from their Neighbourhood Wardens.

RSW19 Commuties Hill Farm Riding School 3 Web

Hill Farm Riding School

The Hill Farm Riding School organised a hack with their young equestrians and adult riders. They also covered the mini road rider badge during their pony club sessions, covering the importance of horse-riding safety. The children and adults benefited greatly from the event and enjoyed a safe ride around the area.

East Suffolk Community

East Suffolk Community Partnerships

During Road Safety Week 2022, East Suffolk Community Partnerships held ten speed watch sessions to combat speeding in residential rural areas.

They reported 33 vehicles for speeding. Primary schools in the area were invited to take part and learn more about the work Junior Road Safety Officers do.

Go Safe Cymru

Go Safe Cymru organised the first Road Safety Week fashion show in 2019, with students from University of South Wales. Fashion students used high-vis clothing and materials to show the importance of being seen on roads.

Cleveland Fire Brigade

Cleveland Fire Brigade attended local further education colleges to deliver road safety presentations. To show the students how they help people at the scene of a road crash, they performed two extraction demonstrations.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Road safety officer visited primary schools during Road Safety Week 2022. They talked to children about key road safety messages, including finding safe places to cross, and using car seats.

Students at secondary schools designed road safety posters for local bus shelters. To engage with the wider community, the Council displayed road safety messages on electric billboards around the Borough.

Chipping Norton Town Council

Chipping Norton Town Council ran stalls during Road Safety Week 2021 to ask people what they thought about road safety in the area. They asked: Do you think we need more safe places to cross? and What do you think of the 20mph zones being implemented in Oxfordshire?

The Council used post-it notes and a flip chart to gauge constituents’ views and completed forms with the public to gain a deeper insight into their views.
