It’s never a nice fact to hear, but road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young people worldwide, and more than six children are killed or seriously injured on roads every day in the UK.
Road Safety Week is a great opportunity for you to help the children and young people you work with to learn about road safety.
Safe vehicles safe lives!
This year, we are putting safe vehicles at the heart of Road Safety Week. We’re raising awareness of the devastating impact of road crashes on everyone involved and shouting out about some of the amazing ways that safe vehicles can stop road crashes and prevent road harm. We’re delighted you have decided to join us.
We’ve put together some simple resources to help you teach the children and young people you work with how safe vehicles save lives:
- Early years educators – run a Beep Beep! Day using Brake resources to teach road safety basics to young children, including how child seats keep them safe when travelling by car.
- Primary schools - talk about safe vehicles in class using our fun films and factsheets. Help children design a safe vehicle of the future. Learn about cycling safely, on safe roads away from traffic.
- Secondary schools – as young people start to travel more independently, help them understand how modern vehicle technology can help keep us all safe but only if we keep safety features switched on! Learn how to carry out a quick vehicle safety check on a car, van or bike before every journey.
- Sixth form – As students start to travel more independently and learn to drive, it's important for them to consider the steps they can take to help keep themselves and other road users safe. Help them learn how to carry out essential safety checks on cars or small vans.

Host a Big Tea Brake and raise vital funds to support families affected by road crashes
Host a Big Tea Brake event
The Big Tea Brake is a fundraising event to bring people together over a hot drink and some sweet treats, while supporting Brake's work helping people affected by road crashes and campaigning for safer roads.
The Big Tea Brake is a fantastic way to fundraise for Brake, by asking for donations for drinks or cakes. The funds you raise go towards our work supporting families affected by road crashes and campaigning for safe roads for everyone.
