Speedy Hire operates a fleet of more than 1,800 vehicles, providing tool hire and delivering specialist equipment to customers and contractors. They launched a new initiative to install portable defibrillators in 300 Speedy Hire vans, to help with out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. The vehicles are registered on mapping systems for defibrillators and bleed kits.

Since the launch of this initiative, Speedy Hire have registered more than 150 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and it continues to roll out the scheme to the wider company. Every minute without CPR or defibrillation reduces a person suffering from cardiac arrest’s chances of survival by 10%. Speedy Hire’s scheme enables more people to access the vital equipment at their time of need.

Aaron Powell, Fleet and logistics director, said: “Speedy Hire are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the Innovation award. It’s a fantastic honour and shows our commitment to safety. I am very proud of the work we do at Speedy in keeping our colleagues and members of the public safe. If putting defibs in our vehicles helps safe just one life, everything we have done is worth it.”

The Fleet Safety Innovation Award, sponsored by FM Conway, was presented to Speedy Hire at the UK Fleet Champions Awards 2024. The award celebrates the fleet operator and fleet supplier that has developed a pioneering approach to fleet safety in 2023 with the greatest success.
