The dedicated service, lasting until July 2029, follows a formal commissioning process that took place earlier this year.
Brake’s National Road Victim Service provides specialist support for people who have been bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash anywhere in the UK. This initiative funds two local Brake caseworkers dedicated to road victims across the West Midlands PCC area.
It will support people who have been impacted by road crashes to manage the immediate traumatic impact and help them to cope and build resilience to move forward with everyday life.
By funding dedicated local caseworkers right here in the West Midlands, we can ensure that victims and bereaved families receive the compassionate, trauma-informed emotional and practical support they need to help them cope and rebuild their lives.
Simon Foster, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner
Ross Moorlock, CEO at Brake, said: “We are delighted to be working with the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner’s office to provide families in the West Midlands with the support they need following a sudden bereavement or serious injury in a road crash.
“This continued and vital funding means those impacted will be able to access specialist, trauma-informed support in local communities. Accessing this help can make such a difference when families need it most.”
West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, said: "Improving road safety and ensuring victims receive the best care and support are two fundamental pillars of my Police and Crime Plan. Every single death or serious injury on our roads is a preventable tragedy, leaving behind devastated families who face immense shock and trauma.
"I am entirely committed to preventing these collisions, but when they do occur, it is vital that people affected have immediate access to specialist, dedicated help and support. That is why I am pleased to renew this funding and secure our partnership with Brake until 2029.
