Personal injury law firms Digby Brown, Irwin Mitchell and Morton Fraser MacRoberts (MFMac) have all renewed their commitment to Brake’s Scotland legal panel, which was launched in 2023. In June 2026, the three law firms pledged to continue to provide free, trauma-informed legal counsel for people injured or bereaved in crashes across the country for another year.
Brake’s National Road Victim Service is a free, professional support service for people who have been bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash. The charity can help people in their darkest and most difficult times, both with practical challenges that often follow a road crash, and with emotional support. Operating across the UK, Brake supports more than 2,000 families every year. A dedicated local team in Scotland supports families face-to-face, online and over the phone.
Meanwhile, the firms on the Scottish legal panel are there to help people through often-complex legal matters across areas like inquests, wills and probate, and claims for compensation. All firms on Brake’s legal panels have also signed up to a Brake code of conduct for supporting road crash victims, meaning they will be able to help in ways that are expert, empathetic and confidential.
Ross Moorlock, CEO at Brake, said: “At any point in time, we have more than 60 families in Scotland who rely on Brake’s National Road Victim Service for specialist support after a road collision. But many also need expert legal advice to help them navigate the complex legal landscape. Thanks to the continued dedication and support of Digby Brown, Irwin Mitchell and MFMac, those families can access that support when they need it.”
Brian Castle, partner at Digby Brown, said: “Digby Brown is honoured to renew our legal partnership with Brake for 2026 because we know, via the thousands of people we help across the country, that our vital work together is not done. Sadly, Scotland sees thousands of avoidable road collisions every year and many of these result in heartbreaking losses for families or leave individuals suffering life-changing injuries.
“Digby Brown has worked tirelessly with Brake for more than a decade to ensure each person affected by the negligence or criminal actions of others gets access to justice, enhanced aftercare, future safeguards and answers to the questions that matter to them. This is why Digby Brown remains committed to Brake, committed to the legal panel and committed to providing Scotland with the empathetic, holistic and trauma-informed support people really need.”
Kim Leslie, partner at Irwin Mitchell, said: “At Irwin Mitchell Scotland, supporting people and families affected by serious road traffic collisions is at the core of what we do. We see every day the devastating and immediate impact these incidents can have, and how vital it is that individuals have access to early support, specialist rehabilitation, and clear, expert legal guidance from the outset.
“Our partnership with Brake is about more than support, it’s about having a meaningful impact. Together, we are committed not only to standing alongside victims and their families, but to driving greater awareness, influencing change in road safety, and helping to prevent future harm. By working collaboratively, we can extend our reach, strengthen the support available, and play a role in making Scotland’s roads safer for everyone.”
Nicola Edgar, partner at MFMac, commented: "MFMac is delighted to be reappointed to Brake's Scottish legal panel for a fourth consecutive year. We remain committed to supporting the vital work Brake does for road victims and their families.
“Every day, we see first-hand the devastating impact of fatal and serious road collisions on individuals, families and communities. Brake's work to improve road safety and achieve their vision of zero deaths on our roads is critical. Until that vision is realised, their role in supporting victims and bringing organisations and communities together remains essential.
“We are proud to work alongside Brake to help ensure that victims and their families receive the trauma-informed legal support they need."
