With a fleet of 264 cars, vans and trucks, Countrystyle Recycling provides commercial and domestic waste services to local authorities and businesses in Kent, London and the South East. As its fleet has grown, Countrystyle Recycling has reconsidered its vehicle telematics system to better understand driver behaviour.

By installing dual-facing AI cameras in its vehicles, Countrystyle Recycling is able to monitor drivers’ risky behaviours, including mobile phone use, not wearing seatbelts, and speeding. This gives fleet managers timely insight into drivers’ behaviours, and, with improved coaching, they can correct them before serious issues arise.

Between 2022 and 2024, Countrystyle Recycling saw incidents of mobile phone use decrease by 85% and seatbelt alerts decrease by 93%. Insurance claims also fell by 21.6%.

Lauren Austen‑Nash, Head of fleet compliance, Countrystyle Recycling, said: “In 2025 we continue to drive safety as a core focus within our operation for not only our team, but everyone around us. Within the last year, we have reduced our insurance fault claims by a further 23%. In addition to this, we have reduced driver tacho infringments by 49.9% in two years. Leading a compliant business starts with driver engagement and this is proven in our progression. In 2024, our fleet travelled over 6.1 million miles, and we look forward to seeing what 2025 will bring.”

The Company Driver Safety Award (small/medium fleet), sponsored by Fleetmaster, was presented to Countrystyle Recycling at the UK Fleet Champions Awards 2024. The award celebrates the private sector organisation that has implemented initiatives that effectively enable drivers to be safe. Judges award education and awareness-raising initiatives about safe driving that extend beyond employees to their families.
