TES 2000 is a contractor that works within the rail industry, carrying out track renewals, electrification and maintenance across Network Rail’s infrastructure. The organisation focuses on creating a safe working environment for employees and the public.
Mick Kiely, Road Risk Manager, worked to update the drivers’ handbook and introduced enhanced training sessions for fleet drivers, covering fatigue management and the use of advanced vehicle safety features. He also introduced 30 new hybrid vehicles to the fleet, with advanced safety features and lower CO2 emissions.
A monthly drivers rewards programme was also introduced to incentivise safe driving. Drivers who show exemplary driving behaviours are recognised and rewarded for their actions, which helps to foster a culture of safety and accountability across the organisation.
Since the introduction of hybrid vehicles in April 2023, fuel costs have fallen by 15%. TES 2000 also noted a reduction in at-fault incidents, with just five reported in 2023/24. The drivers rewards programme has seen 88% of drivers consistently score highly for safety and adherence to safety protocols.
Bianca Molloy, People director, TES 2000 said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Mick has been recognised with the Road Risk Manager of the Year Award. His dedication and hard work have made a real difference, not just in improving the safety of our fleet, but in creating a culture where our drivers feel supported and valued. Mick’s efforts in introducing new training, updating our policies, and bringing in hybrid vehicles have had a lasting impact – reducing risk, lowering emissions, and making TES 2000 a safer place for everyone. We’re incredibly proud of him and grateful for everything he does.”
The Road Risk Manager of the Year Award, sponsored by QBE, was presented to Mick Kiely of TES 2000 at the UK Fleet Champions Awards 2024. The award celebrates the risk or fleet manager who has implemented exemplary road risk management policies with proven results.
