Fun ways to fit 5k into your day or week

Taking on 5k a Day in May doesn’t have to feel like a big commitment – it’s all about making it work for you. Whether you're short on time or looking to keep things interesting, here are some creative ways to reach your daily or weekly goal:

Incorporate it into your routine

  • Walk or wheel to work or school – swap the car or bus for a walk, jog, or cycle.
  • Run errands on foot – walk or cycle to the shops instead of driving.
  • Take the dog on an extra-long walk – they’ll love it just as much as you.

Make it social

  • Buddy up – walk or run with a friend and catch up at the same time.
  • Join a local parkrun – a great way to stay motivated with others.
  • Weekend adventure – plan a scenic hike or bike ride with family.
  • Horse riding counts too – if you ride, make it part of your challenge.

5k a Day in May will make you feel great

Not only will you finish the month feeling stronger and more energised, but you’ll also be supporting Brake’s vital work – providing life-changing help for families affected by road crashes and campaigning tirelessly for safer roads.

How does taking part in 5k a Day in May support road victims?

At Brake, we believe that every road death is preventable. Our vision is to stop road crashes, reduce harm, and ensure every road victim gets the support they need, for as long as they need it.

We understand that the right support at the right time can change the course of someone's life. Brake’s National Road Victim Service is a free, professional, trauma-informed service providing expert emotional and practical support to anyone who has been bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash road.

In 2024, we supported more than 2,000 families in their darkest and most difficult times. Sadly, we know there are many more who need our help, and your support makes a real difference.
