Launched in 2019, the campaign provided free and low-cost resources and industry events to educate fleet firms about crash and road risks.
In that time, we reached more than 3,700 professionals in 99 countries, representing many millions of drivers and vehicles.
A particular highlight was the prestigious Global Fleet Champions Awards, which recognised excellence among organisations from as far afield as Uganda, Botswana and Kenya for their dedication and commitment to making roads safer.
The campaign also ran webinars and published factsheets and best practice guidance for fleet managers on a wide range of subjects – from speed and vehicle safety to young driver risks.
Announcing the cessation of the campaign, Ross Moorlock, Brake’s CEO, said: "Brake has run the Global Fleet Champions campaign for more than seven years, bringing free and low-cost resources to fleet professionals around the world to help them manage their work-related road risk.
“It's time now for us to consolidate our brand and reaffirm our commitment to helping organisations prevent crashes caused by work vehicles.
“It's also important for us to reconnect programmes such as our prestigious annual UK Fleet Champions Awards with Brake's other vital work, supporting road crash victims and campaigning to end road death and injury.
“This is particularly important when we consider that around one in three road deaths in the UK, and a fifth of serious injuries, involves someone driving for work, while every year Brake supports more than 2,000 families who have been bereaved or injured in a road crash. We see first-hand the devastating impact of these crashes on everyone involved.
"We're excited to bring our work-related road safety initiatives back into the main charity work we do here in the UK, just as Brake New Zealand is doing in Australasia. Brake has many valued supporters and partners across the fleet sector, and we look forward to all working together this year.
The end of Global Fleet Champions comes after the publication of the Government’s Road Safety Strategy last month, which includes a national pilot to address work-related road risk.
Brake will launch the 2026 UK Fleet Champions Awards soon. For more information visit www.brake.org.uk/get-involved/for-professionals/fleet-safety/uk-fleet-champions-awards.
