This popular road safety event, which this year will take place on Wednesday 19 March, brings together schools, nurseries and childcare providers across the UK to teach important road safety basics to young children and share information with their parents, carers and the wider community about how to protect children on roads.

Brake will provide a free action pack full of resources and ideas to help teach road safety to children aged 2–7 in a fun and engaging way. Children will learn about:

  1. Holding hands with a grown up when walking near roads
  2. Crossing roads at safe places with a grown up
  3. Using a child seat when travelling by car.

Resources include lesson plans, assembly presentation, colouring sheets, certificates, a social media toolkit and more. All resources are illustrated with characters from Aardman’s beloved Timmy Time, adding fun to the learning.

Last year more than 4,000 schools, nurseries and childminders signed up to take part in Beep Beep! Day. Together, they pledged to help more than 200,000 children to learn about road safety with Brake. To take part this year sign up at www.brake.org.uk/beep.

Nine young children harmed on UK roads every day

Every year, more than 3,000 children aged seven or under are killed or injured on UK roads. Road death and road harm has a devastating impact on families, schools and communities. On average, nine young children are harmed on our roads every single day.

Road safety is the perfect topic for activities that can really engage, protect and benefit young children, and Beep Beep! Day is a great way to take action.

Ross Moorlock, Chief Executive Officer at Brake, said: “Beep Beep! Day is a great opportunity to start a conversation with young children about why road safety is so important. It is up to us as grown ups to keep children safe on our roads, and this is a great way to engage their attention and help them learn about making safe journeys. It's also a great opportunity to send vital safety messages out to all parents, carers and the wider community too.”
