The legal panel, which launched in 2023, exists to provide free legal support to road crash victims who require specialist guidance within Scotland. Personal injury law firms Digby Brown, Irwin Mitchell and Morton Fraser MacRoberts are all members of the panel, which is coordinated by Brake.
Brake’s National Road Victim Service provides trauma-informed emotional and practical support to families that have been bereaved or injured in road crashes. The service operates all over the UK and has a dedicated local team in Scotland. In 2023, the team expanded to five specialist professionals who supported families face-to-face, online and over the phone.
Marco Fantin, partnerships manage at Brake, said: “We are delighted that these firms have renewed their support again this year so that we can continue to offer this important service to those who need it in Scotland. The road crashes we see in this region are often complex and as we support people through our National Road Victim Service, it’s great to know we can continue to guide them to specialist legal support too.”
Brian Castle, partner at Digby Brown, said: “Just as Digby Brown is committed to helping people affected by road traffic collisions, so too are we passionate about reducing such incidents happening in the first place. This is why we are proud to maintain our partnership with Brake as an approved legal service provider while they lead the way helping all road users to be safe.”
David Bell, senior associate at Irwin Mitchell, added: “We see the devastating consequences of crashes on our roads so we are delighted to work with Brake in every way we can to help to make them safer for everybody. We know that victims and their families require not only legal advice but support and understanding to help them through such difficult times. We are proud to be on Brake’s legal panel in Scotland and to provide that assistance."
Nicola Edgar, partner at Morton Fraser MacRoberts, said: “We are proud to be part of Brake's Scottish legal panel. Brake and MFMac are both passionately committed to helping road victims and we are delighted to be working alongside Brake to ensure victims and their families receive the legal advice and the support they need."
